Human hair (2 sources), Leicester Longwool wool from Hurricane Hill Farm, kiln-cast glass,  approx. 20 inches long
Using yarn I spun with my own hair and yarn I spun using my boyfriend's hair, I made us a baby that is genetically ours. A baby that can be left unaccompanied for days. And that won't wake us with it's cries in the middle of the night.
A baby that I created with my body, and one that I can hold.
Nestled in a glass bassinet, our baby lays immortalized.
As I knit this piece, I grappled with some of the conflicting feelings I was having towards an abortion I received at the beginning of 2022.
9:53 mintues long.
The act of felting can mimic an act of care. With warm water and soap the object is massaged, though as the process drags on it begins to devolve. The abrasion breaks down and mats the fibers of the piece, and the motions get more vigorous.
This performance is an exercise in felting, and a reflection on cleansing and caring physically as well as emotionally.
